YouTube Shorts is a video-on-demand platform created by YouTube to compete with TikTok. The platform is designed to allow users to quickly capture, edit and share short-form videos with their followers. - Unfortunately, YouTube Shorts looks like it’s going to be a major disappointment. There are a few reasons why YouTube Shorts are bad.
First of all, YouTube shorts don’t offer much in terms of content. Most videos are too short (15 seconds) for any real information to be shared, so most creators use them as an opportunity for comedic skits. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it does limit the usefulness of the platform for educational purposes, which YouTube had originally intended the platform to be.
Secondly, the interface of YouTube shorts is not very user-friendly. To create a short, users have to upload the video and then use the in-app editor to add captions and filters to the video. This takes time and can be difficult to navigate.
Also, there is not much room for creativity when it comes to YouTube shorts. Videos must be between 15 and 60 seconds so creators are limited to what can be shared in that timespan. This means a lot of videos will look and feel similar.
Finally, YouTube shorts is difficult to find as it is not yet available worldwide and isn’t featured prominently in the YouTube app. This means that even if a user finds a short they like, they may have difficulty finding it again.
For all these reasons, it is clear that YouTube shorts is not the popular, useful platform YouTube originally hoped it would be. Until YouTube addresses the issues outlined above, YouTube Shorts is unlikely to draw any major engagement or attention.
